Youth in Action Project:
What’s in a difference? Mirroring ourselves through intercultural dialogue.
For the year of the Intercultural Dialogue, the Team Work Association, in cooperation with its partners, has created the Youth in Action project “What’s in a difference? Mirroring ourselves through intercultural dialogue”, a multilateral Youth Exchange under Action 1.1.
The main topic of the exchange was Intercultural Communication and the main purpose was to promote, among youngsters, cultural opening and a non discriminatory attitude as a result of acknowledging cultural differences and accepting diversity.
Our objectives were: The development of the personalities of the participants, of intercultural communication abilities and working in multicultural teams; Learning about discrimination, xenophobia, racism, and the means to overcome prejudice; Creation, at the end of the exchange, of a transnational communication platform which will be promoted by the participants among the youth communities they come from.
The exchange took place in Romania, in the country of Mehedinti, city Drobeta Turnu Severin, and it lasted 8 days, from 6 to 14 August 2008. There were 12 participants and 6 group leaders, youngsters between 17-25 years old, and they came from Italy, Latvia and Romania.
Our purpose was to overcome distances and share our cultures. The activities were based on non formal education and we proposed games, theatre, open discussions, presentations and national evenings.
Youth in Action is the European Commission program that financially sustains projects for youth between 13-30 years. The main priorities of the program are European citizenship, the active participation of youngsters, cultural diversity and the inclusion of disadvantaged youth.
